The CEMEF is an international leader in material forming research.
The research activities at CEMEF cover all types of materials (metal, polymers, composites, glass and materials for food production industry ...).
For main scientific axis are at the base of all research:
- material is cast, tools have to resist : thermo mechanics in continuous environments,
- the material orients, crystallizes or texturises : relations casting-crystallization-morphology (relations between implementation, structure and application properties),
- material rubs against tools: surface and contact mechanics, wear, thermal transfer, lubrication,
- digital modelling with different gradations in the processes.

Materials sciences and engineering
MinesParisTech teaches Materials Science and Engineering, both in basic and advanced courses while applied research is conducted in three different centres totalling about 80 staff and 200 master’s and PhD candidates.
The experimental approach combines the study of micro structures and constitution of surfaces and interfaces at all scales, of physical and electrical properties and mechanical characterization.
Experimental work is combined with numerical modelling activities resting on strong physical bases and linking all scales.
Innovations concern materials development along that of associated processes and the development of original commercially available softwares for mechanical behaviour, life prediction and optimized shaping.
