Abstract The originality and strength of the proposed topic is based on the synergistic combination of these two processes to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide from carbon dioxide and water. This will involve harvesting the UV radiation emitted by a CO2 plasma (used for CO2 retroconversion into CO and O2) to activate the photo-dissociation of water on TiO2, into H2 and O2. The process will benefit from a synergy effect for optimum energy efficiency, the bandgap of TiO2 being perfectly adapted to the wavelength of radiation emitted by the plasma CO2.
The work will build on the developments of the group in the field of cold plasma and CO2 retroconversion on one hand and photolysis of water and the synthesis of aerogels on the other hand. It will include both of materials and processes developments. It will consist in a first part to assess the ability of materials developed in the study to produce hydrogen in a reactor under CO2 plasma irradiation.
