G8 introduced in 2003 a plan for setting the Global Earth Observation System of Systems, (GEOSS). This initiative, entrusted to the GEO (Group on Earth Observations http: //www.earthobservations.org), includes 84 countries and the European Commission, as well as 58 international organizations.

 

The plenary and ministerial assemblies of GEO took place from 3rd till 5th of November 2010, in Beijing (China). Thierry Ranchin and Lionel Ménard, researchers of the Centre for Energy and Processes (MINES ParisTech, CEP), represented France, the European Union and MINES ParisTech. They presented the activities of the Centre for Energy and Processes within the framework of sun resource evaluation, as well as a demonstrator illustrating the computing interoperability of information systems within the framework of the GEOSS common architecture and the evaluation of environmental impacts of energy uses.

Thierry Ranchin is the co-responsible for France of the Users Interface Committee, and the co-responsible for the community of practices on energies, one of the nine societal domains of GEOSS.

Lionel Ménard participates in the activities of the committee in charge of architecture and data (Structure and Data Committee) and aiming at the definition of standards within the framework of GEOSS.

Samuel Benveniste, Pierre Jouvelot and Renaud Péquignot, Computer science Centre (MINES ParisTech - CRI) participated to the Serious Games and Collaborative Interaction session (Sept. 10, 13:00-14:40)
 

They presented "The MINWii Project: Renarcissization of Patients Suffering from Alzheimer's Disease Through Video Game-Based Music Therapy".

Three sessions on "Provoking Realism: Social Scientific Methods of Pedagogy and Research for the Creation of Contained Realities" organized by Javier Lezaun, Signe Vikkelso and Fabian Muniesa, Researcher at Centre for the Sociology of Innovation (MINES Paristech-CSI).

Francesca Musiani, PhD student at Centre for the Sociology of Innovation (MINES Paristech-CSI) presented her research in the Surveillance and Society track.

The particular focus for the 2010 conference is that of practice and performance. Science and technology, are seen as performative domains of the “social”, situated practices rooted and grown in a sociomaterial context.

 

Professor Claude Laurgeau Robotics Centre (MINES ParisTech - CAOR) visited: 

Queensland University of Technology and stayed at CARRS-Q (Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety) during August. Claude Laurgeau gived a seminar of the CARRS-Q Breakfast Series on monday 30th of August.

Topic: "Intelligent vehicles...Towards an automated road"

                                                    

He also visited NICTA (Australia's ICT Research Centre of Excellence) in Sydney 

and gived a lecture on Friday 20th of August on Intelligent Transportation Systems.

This ParisTech mission was organized in order to reinforce all levels of relationship (students and research) with both the Universities of Moscow (Bauman and Lomonosov) and Novosibirsk. 

                                  

Our international team realized a mission in China at Beijing, Nanjing, Shangai, with 3 objectives:

• promote students' recruitment for our graduate engineering programme,
• promote Research cooperation,
• and follow relationship with the French companies working in China. 

 

The MEXFITEC Programme organizes students’ exchanges between France and Mexico.

IIn this context, our international team was in Colima, in Guadalajara, and in Mexico City, in order to promote the welcome for 1 year, in ParisTech schools, of Master degree Mexican students.

On February, our international team travelled in Bulgaria and Rumania to promote our graduate engineering programme.

We met the future Bulgarian and Rumanian students at the University, and Technical University of Sofia, and at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest.
