Beijing 3-5 November 2010 GEO-VII

GEO-VII and Beijing Ministerial Summit Exhibition - Meeting of the intergovernmental group on the observation of the Earth.

G8 introduced in 2003 a plan for setting the Global Earth Observation System of Systems, (GEOSS). This initiative, entrusted to the GEO (Group on Earth Observations http: //www.earthobservations.org), includes 84 countries and the European Commission, as well as 58 international organizations.
 

The plenary and ministerial assemblies of GEO took place from 3rd till 5th of November 2010, in Beijing (China). Thierry Ranchin and Lionel Ménard, researchers of the Centre for Energy and Processes (MINES ParisTech, CEP), represented France, the European Union and MINES ParisTech. They presented the activities of the Centre for Energy and Processes within the framework of sun resource evaluation, as well as a demonstrator illustrating the computing interoperability of information systems within the framework of the GEOSS common architecture and the evaluation of environmental impacts of energy uses.

Thierry Ranchin is the co-responsible for France of the Users Interface Committee, and the co-responsible for the community of practices on energies, one of the nine societal domains of GEOSS.

Lionel Ménard participates in the activities of the committee in charge of architecture and data (Structure and Data Committee) and aiming at the definition of standards within the framework of GEOSS.

The EASST 2010 conference is the biennial forum of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology (EASST) for contributions on topics from the range of disciplines found within science, technology and innovation studies.

 
Francesca Musiani, PhD student at Centre for the Sociology of Innovation (MINES Paristech-CSI) presented her research in the Surveillance and Society track.


The particular focus for the 2010 conference is that of practice and performance. Science and technology, are seen as performative domains of the “social”, situated practices rooted and grown in a sociomaterial context.


 


 

 

 

AUSTRALIA - August 2010

Professor Claude Laurgeau Robotics Centre (MINES ParisTech - CAOR) visited: 

Queensland University of Technology and stayed at CARRS-Q (Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety) during August. Claude Laurgeau gived a seminar of the CARRS-Q Breakfast Series on monday 30th of August.
